Speed quiz: ten seconds a question, the quickest wins

A speed quiz is a live quiz against the clock. The host sends a question, every player gets ten seconds to answer on their own device, the answer is revealed, and the scoreboard updates before the next one.

A quiz built around pace

In a normal quiz, the slowest table sets the speed. In a speed quiz the clock does. Every question gets the same ten seconds, so a round of twenty questions takes a few minutes instead of an hour, and nobody waits on answer sheets.

Qwiz Rush runs the whole format in the browser. The host drives from one screen, the room watches the question and the leaderboard on another, and each player answers on their own device. There is no app to install.

How one round of a speed quiz runs

  1. The host sends a question

The question goes up on the big screen and onto every player’s device at the same moment.

  2. Everyone gets 10 seconds

Every player answers on one synchronized 10-second countdown. Multiple choice, first-letter and number questions all run on the same clock.

  3. The clock hits zero and the answer is revealed

Input stops, the right answer appears, and a correct answer scores a base plus a timing bonus that is biggest for the quickest.

  4. The scoreboard updates and the next question fires

Scores are worked out on the server and the live leaderboard updates, ready for the next question.

What makes it a speed quiz on Qwiz Rush

The format only works if the clock is fair and the pace never drops, so those are the parts the app fixes in place.

One 10-second clock

Core questions always run for 10 seconds, so the pace is the same from the first question to the last.

Answers on each device

Players open a browser, type the short game code and answer on their own screen. Nothing to install.

Speed scores more

A correct answer earns a base score plus a timing bonus. A wrong answer scores nothing.

A live scoreboard

Scores update after each question and the standings show on the projector or TV view.

Three question types

Multiple choice, first-letter and number answers, plus song questions answered as any of those.

Graded on the server

The server decides who was right and what they scored, so the leaderboard is the same for everyone.
