How to use the quiz timer
Set the round length
Tap 10s, 30s or 60s. Ten seconds is the sweet spot for a quick-fire question — long enough to think, short enough to keep the energy up. Thirty and sixty suit longer working-out questions, picture rounds or team huddles.
Press Start and read the question
The dial sweeps down from full and the whole room watches the same countdown. It runs entirely in your browser on any device or classroom screen, with nothing to download and nothing to sign up for.
Pause to hold it, Reset for the next one
While the clock runs, Start becomes Pause — hold it there while you read out a question or settle the room. Reset jumps back to the top, ready for the next question.
Why a countdown makes a better quiz
A visible clock does two things at once. It keeps the game moving, so a round never drags while one table deliberates, and it makes every question feel fair — everyone gets the same window, and the pressure of the last few seconds is where the best quiz moments happen. Put the timer on a big screen and the whole room watches the same countdown together.
Or let Qwiz Rush run the clock for you
This tool is handy for pen-and-paper quizzes, but if you want the timer built into the game itself, that is exactly what Qwiz Rush does. Every question runs on a synchronized 10-second countdown from a single source of truth, so the clock means the same instant on every player's device at once — no one is a second ahead or behind. The answer is revealed the moment the clock hits zero, and a timing bonus rewards fast, correct answers, so speed actually counts toward the live leaderboard.
It is free to host, players join with a short code — no accounts and no install — and the same game works for classrooms, pub quiz nights, team-building and family game night.
