A speed quiz is a live quiz where every question gets the same short clock. This guide covers running one on Qwiz Rush. If you want the background first, read what a speed quiz is.

Step by step

Every step above, expanded — what to do, why it works, and how to get it right. Tap a step to jump here, or read straight through.

Step 1: Make or pick a question set

A speed quiz lives or dies on its questions, so start there. In the editor you can write questions yourself as multiple choice, first-letter or number questions, or add song questions that are answered as one of those three.

  • Write them yourself in the editor.
  • Type a topic and let the AI helper draft a round, then edit every question before you save.
  • Pick a ready-made set from Discover if you want to start playing quickly.
Tip

Aim for answer options of one to three words. Players only have ten seconds to read them.

Step 2: Start a room

Starting the game creates the room. The room has a short game code, and a projector view that shows the question, the countdown and the scores without any host controls on it.

Open the projector view on a screen the room can see. You can open it on a laptop plugged into a TV or projector, cast it, or pair a smart TV at qwizrush.com/tv. Your own controls stay on your device.

Step 3: Players join by code

Keep the game code on the big screen the whole time so latecomers can join between questions. Players enter it at qwizrush.com, choose a name and wait in the lobby for the first question.

Good to know

If a player’s connection drops, their session is restored when they reconnect, as long as their tab is still open.

Step 4: Run the rounds

Send a question and the same countdown starts on every device. Core questions are always 10 seconds, so you do not set a timer. When the clock ends, input stops and the answer is revealed.

  1. Send the question.
  2. Ten seconds on the clock while players answer.
  3. The answer is revealed and scores update.
  4. Send the next question.

For variety, drop a mini-game between questions. Mini-games feed the same leaderboard.

Step 5: Reveal the scores

A correct answer scores a base plus a timing bonus, so the quickest correct players climb. A wrong answer scores nothing. The server grades every answer and writes the scores, so the leaderboard is the same on every screen.

Show the standings between rounds to keep the rivalry going, then finish on the overall leaderboard.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to run a speed quiz?

Each question takes ten seconds to answer, plus the reveal and scoreboard. A set of twenty questions plays through in a few minutes, and you choose how many rounds to run.

Can I change the 10‑second timer?

No. Multiple choice, first-letter and number questions are always 10 seconds, so every question is fair and the pace is predictable. Only song questions use their own clip window.

Do my players need an account?

Not by default. They enter the game code and a name. A host can choose to require Google sign-in.

What if I do not have a big screen?

You can still run a quiz on a laptop in a small room, but a TV or projector showing the projector view makes it much easier for a group to follow along.
