Step by step

Every step above, expanded — what to do, why it works, and how to get it right. Tap a step to jump here, or read straight through.

Step 1: Open the link or enter the code

Getting into a game takes seconds, and there is nothing to install. Qwiz Rush runs entirely in your browser, so any modern phone, tablet, or laptop works. If your host shared a link, just open it and you’ll land straight in the game with the code already filled in. If you only have the code, go to qwizrush.com, tap Join a Quiz, and enter the 6-digit code your host read out or put on the big screen.

Two ways in

  • Tap the host’s shared link to open the game directly.
  • Or visit qwizrush.com, choose Join a Quiz, and type the 6-digit code.
  • Codes are digits only, so there are no letters to mistype.
Tip

If the code is rejected, double-check every digit and confirm the host has actually opened the game, then try again.

Step 2: Pick a team name and victory song

Next, set up who you are at the table. Pick a team name and a victory song — the song’s cover art becomes your team avatar, so the host and the leaderboard can tell you apart from everyone else in the room. Whether you’re playing solo or as a group huddled around one phone, the name you choose is how you’ll show up on the per-question and overall leaderboards, so make it something you’ll be proud to watch climb.

Anonymous or signed in

  • Play anonymously: enter a team name and pick a victory song, then jump straight in. Nothing else is required.
  • Sign in with Google: keep a persistent profile that carries across games, so you don’t set yourself up from scratch every time.
Good to know

Both paths play exactly the same. Signing in only adds a profile that sticks around between games.

Step 3: Wait for the host to start

Once you’re in, you’ll see a waiting room. That’s normal, and it means you’re connected and ready. Nothing happens until the host starts the game, so sit tight, keep your screen awake, and watch for the first question to appear. The whole room launches into the same question at the same instant, which is why everyone waits together first.

Keep the tab open

Leave the Qwiz Rush tab open and in the foreground. If your Wi-Fi drops or you briefly lose signal in a noisy venue, don’t panic and don’t rejoin from scratch.

  • When you reconnect, your session is restored automatically.
  • Your team, your score, and your place are all preserved.
  • If reconnecting seems stuck, refresh the same tab rather than entering the code again in a new one.

Step 4: Answer before the clock hits zero

This is the heart of the game. When the host pushes a question, every player gets a synchronized 10-second countdown that starts at the same instant on every device, whatever network you’re on. No phone is ahead or behind, so it’s a fair race. Read fast, tap your answer, and lock it in before the clock hits zero. When time runs out, input stops everywhere at once.

Three ways to answer

  • Multiple choice: tap the choice you think is right.
  • Letters: tap the first letter of the answer.
  • Numbers: enter a number.
  • Song questions use one of these same formats, just with a longer 30-second window.

Speed pays, but only when you’re right. A correct answer earns a base score plus a timing bonus, and the quickest correct answers score highest, with the sweet spot in the first few seconds. Wrong answers score zero, so there’s no reward for guessing fast.

Tip

Be quick, but be sure. A wrong answer at any speed is worth nothing, so it’s better to read fully than to fire blind.

Step 5: Watch the leaderboard climb

The moment the clock hits zero, the answer is revealed and scores update live. You’ll find out right away whether you were right, then watch the standings shift as the round plays out. Your on-screen feedback is instant, while the official scoring is computed on the server so the leaderboard stays fair and consistent for everyone in the room.

Two views of the standings

  • Per-question leaderboard: see how everyone did on the question that just closed.
  • Overall leaderboard: track your running total and your place across the whole game, round after round.

Then the host pushes the next question and the loop repeats. Watch your name rise as you string together fast, correct answers, and keep an eye on the gap to the team ahead so you know how hard to push on the questions still to come.

Enter your code and pick a team name — that’s it.
