Whack‑a‑Target: a live whack‑a‑mole style game for your quiz
Whack‑a‑Target puts a cabinet of nine holes on every player's device. Green creatures pop up and players bonk them before they duck away. Decoy Grumps pop up too, and bonking one costs you a point.

It is easy to explain and quick to play, which makes it a good short break between questions. The deal of creatures is the same for every player, so the room is judged on skill, not luck.
Quick facts
- Players
- 1 or more. Works solo or with a whole room. Every device sees the same sequence of pop-ups.
- Length
- About 17 seconds: a 2-second intro followed by 15 seconds of play.
- Solo room
- Yes. A single player can run it, and it is part of the hostless Free Play pool. A solo player plays for their own net score.
How it works
The host launches Whack-a-Target and each device shows a 3 by 3 cabinet of holes.
After a 2-second intro, a green creature pops up in one hole at a time.
Players tap it to bonk it for a point. If it ducks away unbonked, that costs a point.
Grumps ride along with the green ones, more often as the round goes on, and from the halfway mark a second Grump can join. Hitting one counts as a miss.
The green creatures stay up for less time as the round goes on, so the pace tightens.
At the bell, the server replays each player's tap log and ranks the room by bonks minus misses.
Player controls
Tap the hole holding the green creature. Leave the Grumps alone.
Quiz questions
None. It is pure skill and does not use any question from your set.
Tips for hosts
- Mention the Grumps before you start; they get more frequent through the round, so late taps need more care.
- A tap on a creature still dizzy from a bonk counts as the same swing, so players do not need to double-tap.
- Use it as a 17-second break; with a 15-second play window it fits easily between two questions.
Frequently asked questions
How does scoring work in Whack-a-Target?
Your score is bonks minus misses. A wrong swing, or a green creature that gets away, costs a point. The server replays each tap log against the shared deal, so claimed counts never rank.
Is every player shown the same creatures?
Yes. Where each green creature and Grump pops up comes from the round's seed, so all devices see the same deal. Differences in score come from speed and accuracy.
Can the host change how long it runs?
No. The host console launches it with a fixed 2-second intro and 15 seconds of play. There is no round-length setting for this game.
