Coin Catch: a live coin‑catching game for your quiz

Coin Catch drops coins and bombs from the top of every player's screen. Players slide a piggy bank left and right to catch the coins and avoid the bombs. The most coins in the pile when the time is up ranks first.

Everyone sees the same rain, so it is a fair test of reflexes and planning. Hosts use it as a lighter moment in a quiz: easy to learn, but the streak bonuses give a good player room to pull ahead.

Quick facts

Players
1 or more. Works solo or with a whole room. Every device gets the same rain of coins and bombs.
Length
About 32 seconds: a 2-second intro followed by 30 seconds of falling coins.
Solo room
Yes. One player can run it, and it is part of the hostless Free Play pool. A solo player is chasing their own biggest pile.

How it works

  1. The host launches Coin Catch and each device shows the piggy bank under a rain of items.

  2. After a 2-second intro, coins and bombs start falling from the top.

  3. Players slide the piggy left and right to take each coin. The pig moves at a capped speed, so two distant coins are a real choice.

  4. Catching coins in a row builds a streak that pays more: a coin is worth 2 from the 10th in a row and 3 from the 20th.

  5. A coin that slips past, or a bomb the pig takes, ends the streak. A bomb also costs 5 coins, never taking the pile below zero.

  6. Drops get faster, denser and more bomb-heavy as the round goes on. At the end, the server replays each catch log and ranks piles.

Player controls

Drag your finger across the screen to steer the piggy bank under the coins. On a keyboard, the arrow keys or A and D walk it.

Quiz questions

None. It is pure skill and does not use any question from your set.

Tips for hosts

  • Point out the streak bonus before you start, since a long unbroken run is worth much more than scattered catches.
  • Warn players that bombs get more common as the round goes on, so greedy late grabs can backfire.
  • Because every device gets the same rain, a solo or small group can compare piles fairly.

Frequently asked questions

How are coins counted in Coin Catch?

Each device streams which drops its pig took, and the server replays that log against the round's seeded rain. Only real coins that reached the slot count, so a claimed pile is never ranked. The biggest pile wins.

What does a bomb do?

A bomb that the pig takes costs 5 coins, never dropping your pile below zero, and it ends your catch streak. Dodging bombs is as important as grabbing coins.

How does the streak bonus work?

The coin that takes a run to 10 in a row is worth 2, and from 20 in a row each coin is worth 3. A coin that passes the slot, or a bomb, ends the run and resets the bonus.
