Rhythm: a live music‑tapping game for your quiz

Rhythm turns a real song into a note highway. Gems fall down four lanes on every player's device, timed to the beat of the track playing in the room. Players tap each lane as its gem reaches the line.

Perfect timing scores more, and a long run of hits builds a multiplier. Hosts use it as a high-energy break, with the music coming from the host's screen so the whole room hears the same song.

Quick facts

Players
1 or more. Works solo or with a whole room. Every device plays the same chart.
Length
A 3-second lead-in, then the length of the charted song clip. If no clip could be charted, a music-less pattern of about 24 seconds is used.
Solo room
Yes. A host can launch it for a single player, since there is no minimum player count. It is not part of the hostless Free Play pool.

How it works

  1. The host launches Rhythm and a song is charted into a pattern of gems across four lanes.

  2. After a 3-second lead-in the song plays from the host's tab, and gems fall toward the strike line on every device.

  3. Players tap the matching lane as each gem lands. Within 90 ms is a Perfect worth 100, within 220 ms is Good worth 50.

  4. Every 6 hits in a row raises the streak multiplier by one, up to 6 times. A miss or a stray tap resets it.

  5. A stray tap with no gem in reach costs 25 points, so mashing loses points.

  6. At the end, the server replays each player's tap log against the chart and ranks the room by score, then by on-beat hits.

Player controls

Tap the lane pad that matches each gem as it reaches the line. There are four lanes.

Quiz questions

No questions from your set. If a song was charted, a single song-title question can appear near the end: the title is hidden during play, the pads relabel A to D in roughly the last 6 seconds, and a correct pick adds a score bonus. A wrong pick costs nothing.

Tips for hosts

  • Make sure the host tab can play audio, since the music comes from the host rather than from each device.
  • Tell players that mashing the pads costs points. Each stray tap takes 25 off, so patience pays.
  • Tell the room to watch the last few seconds, when the song-title pads appear and a correct pick adds a bonus.

Frequently asked questions

How is Rhythm scored?

A tap within 90 ms of the beat scores 100 and within 220 ms scores 50, multiplied by your streak, which grows by one every 6 hits in a row up to 6 times. The server replays your tap log to check it.

Where does the music come from?

The host picks a trending track, and its short preview clip is charted into gems. The host's tab plays the audio so the room hears it. If no clip could be charted, a music-less seeded pattern is used instead.

What is the song-title bonus?

In rounds with a charted song, the title is hidden and, in the last few seconds, the pads relabel A to D. The first title pad you hit is your pick, graded by the server. A right pick adds a bonus; a wrong one costs nothing else.
