Red Light Rush: a live chase race for your quiz

Red Light Rush is a hold‑to‑run race across a long track. Players dash toward a giant wind‑up robot, the Keeper, who keeps turning round to look. When the robot looks, players have to stop, or duck behind cover, or they are sent back along the track.

Hosts use it as a high-energy break between quiz questions. It needs no question set. Getting caught is visible but never announced, and no player is named or knocked out, so everyone stays in the race until the clock runs out.

Quick facts

Players
1 or more. Built for a room. The launcher sets no minimum or cap, and the track gets more lanes as more players join.
Length
A 7-second intro, then a 90-second run. The host can add up to three 30-second extensions.
Solo room
Limited. The launcher does not require a minimum number of players, but it is a race against other runners and is much better with several players.

How it works

  1. The host launches the race and every device shows the track after a 7-second intro.

  2. Players hold to run and steer by swiping or with the arrow keys. Running builds speed, and speed shoes picked up on the way give a short boost.

  3. The Keeper turns round to look at unpredictable moments, with a short tell just before. Players must stop when it looks, or creep slowly behind a crate or pillar.

  4. A runner still moving during a look can be caught, frozen and wound back to the last distance marker behind them.

  5. The run lasts 90 seconds, and the host can extend it. The first three runners to cross the finish bell earn a bonus.

  6. Distance scores points, so every runner gains something even without reaching the finish.

Player controls

Hold anywhere on the control area to run and swipe sideways to steer. On a keyboard, W, Up or Space runs, A, D or the left and right arrows steer, and S or Down brakes.

Host settings

  • Press the +30s button during the run to extend it by 30 seconds and lengthen the track by a third of its base length, up to three times.

Quiz questions

None, it is pure skill. Red Light Rush does not use the loaded question set.

Tips for hosts

  • Tell players to start easing off the moment the robot's tell appears rather than waiting for it to turn fully round.
  • Remind them that cover helps: creeping slowly behind a crate or pillar during a look is safe.
  • Use the +30s button if the room is close to the finish when the clock runs low.

Frequently asked questions

How long does Red Light Rush last?

After a 7-second intro the run lasts 90 seconds. The host can press +30s up to three times to add 30 seconds each time. A pushed wall also lengthens the track, so the finish line moves further away.

What happens when a player is caught?

A runner who is still moving after the Keeper's turn and a short grace period can be caught. They are frozen and wound back to the last distance marker behind them, and they stay in the race. Catches are never announced and no player is named.

How do players score points?

Distance scores up to 4 points, paid in proportion to how far along the track a player got. The first three players to cross the finish bell add a bonus of 2, 1 and 0 points, so the winner earns 6 points.
