Snake: a classic snake game with a quiz twist for your room
Snake is the classic arcade game on a picnic tray. Each player steers Noodle, a grass snake, around a 21 by 21 board to eat apples, growing and speeding up as they go. The most apples in a single run wins.

If you have a question set loaded, a golden apple now and then opens a quiz question mid-game. A correct answer fires a power surge. With no set loaded it plays as a pure arcade round, so it works any time.
Quick facts
- Players
- 1 or more. Works solo or with a whole room. Each player plays their own snake on their own device.
- Length
- About 48 seconds: a 3-second intro followed by a 45-second round.
- Solo room
- Yes. A host can launch it for a single player, since there is no minimum player count. It is not part of the hostless Free Play pool, which keeps to games that need no question set.
How it works
The host launches Snake and each device shows a 3-second intro on the picnic tray.
Players steer Noodle to apples; each apple grows the snake and shaves time off its step, so it speeds up.
Crashing into the rail or your own tail respawns you with about half of the lost run as a head start.
In a round with questions, a golden apple appears every so often, paced by time and by apples eaten. Eating it opens a quiz card and the snake pauses while it is open.
A correct answer, judged by the server, fires a power surge: bonus apples, invulnerability, extra speed and double apple value. A faster answer earns more bonus apples and a longer surge.
From 40 percent of the round a patrol wasp flies a loop. At the bell, the best single run of apples ranks the room.
Player controls
Swipe on a touch screen, or use the arrow keys or WASD on a keyboard, to steer. Controls are fixed to the board, so up is always up.
Quiz questions
Optional. If a question set is loaded, up to six of its questions are woven into the round as golden-apple cards and marked used, so the main quiz does not repeat them. A correct answer fires a surge; a wrong one costs 2 apples and a short daze. A card that times out costs nothing. With no set loaded it is pure arcade.
Tips for hosts
- Load a question set first if you want the golden-apple questions, because without one the round has none.
- Tell players that a wrong answer costs apples, so a quick wrong guess is worse than letting the card time out.
- Remind players that a crash is not the end: they keep about half the run, and only their best run counts.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a question set for Snake?
No. With no set loaded Snake is a pure arcade round. If a set is loaded, the host weaves some of its questions in as golden-apple cards, and those questions are then used up for the main quiz.
How is the Snake winner decided?
Each player's best single run of apples ranks them. If apples tie, the player who reached that best sooner ranks higher. The server caps totals at what a round of this length could actually produce.
What happens when I crash?
You respawn after a short pause carrying about half of the lost run as a head start. Only your best run counts, so a crash late in the round hurts less than it would in a one-life game.
