Balloon Siege: a live tower‑defence game powered by quiz answers

Balloon Siege is a tower‑defence game set in a big‑top tent. Waves of balloons wind along a lane towards the exit, and each player builds towers beside it to pop them. Towers cost tickets, and the only way to earn tickets is to answer quiz questions.

Hosts use it as a longer, strategic break. Every device runs its own lane but faces the identical wave stream, so rankings are fair, and the host chooses how many waves the round runs.

Quick facts

Players
1 or more. No minimum and no fixed cap. Each player defends their own lane against the same wave stream, so it works solo or with a whole room.
Length
133 seconds with the default 8 waves: a 4 second intro, 11 seconds per wave, a 36 second tail for the last wave and a 5 second outro. 5 waves is 100 seconds and 12 is 177.
Solo room
Yes. The launcher has no minimum player count. Each player runs a solo lane on the same wave stream, so one player can play a full round and get a ranked score.

How it works

  1. The host picks 5, 8 or 12 waves, which is also the number of questions the round uses, and launches.

  2. Each player starts with 350 energy (shown as tickets) and 100 lives, and a fresh wave is released every 11 seconds.

  3. Players tap a tower to arm it, then tap a lawn square beside the lane to build, and can upgrade, retarget or sell towers at any time.

  4. Every so often a question goes up on the stall's placard, about one every 15 seconds, and the player can also tap Answer Now to summon one early.

  5. Balloons that leak cost lives. At the end the score counts waves cleared, lives left and balloon layers popped.

Player controls

Tap a tower crate to arm it, then tap a lawn square to build, or press and slide to a square. Tap a built tower for its card, with two upgrade paths, targeting priority (First, Last, Strong or Close) and sell. Answer questions as tiles or a number pad.

Host settings

  • Balloon Siege waves, a choice of 5, 8 or 12 (default 8). This is also the number of questions the round uses.

Quiz questions

Answers are the only source of energy, so the quiz is the economy. A correct answer pays 150 plus up to 130 more depending on speed, over a 12 second soft window. A wrong answer still pays 20, so a miss is not a dead end. Looped repeats of the same questions pay half. Three correct answers in a row arm a one-tap air strike, and at zero lives two correct answers in a row revive the player once with 25 lives. Questions are marked used so the main quiz does not ask them.

Tips for hosts

  • Pick 12 waves for a keen room and 5 for a quick break; the choice also decides how many of your questions are borrowed.
  • Tell players not to chase tickets with guesses: a wrong answer pays only 20 against 150 or more for a right one.
  • Remind players that some balloons are hidden or regrow, and that only certain towers can see the hidden ones.

Frequently asked questions

How is Balloon Siege scored?

The final score is 500 points per wave cleared, 6 per life remaining and 1 per balloon layer popped. Waves cleared and lives left dominate the ranking. The score is also recomputed from clamped parts on the server.

What happens when a player answers wrong in Balloon Siege?

They still receive 20 energy as a consolation, against 150 plus a speed bonus of up to 130 for a right answer. A wrong answer also breaks the streak that arms the air strike and the streak that revives a player.

How many questions does Balloon Siege use?

One per wave: 5, 8 or 12, as the host chooses. They are taken from the set's unused multiple choice, letters or numbers questions, and song questions are skipped. If fewer remain, the round simply runs fewer waves.
