Word Scramble: a live anagram race for your quiz
Word Scramble is a fast anagram game. Each player gets a rack of scrambled letters and builds a real word from it. The first word has three letters, and every word after it grows by one letter, so the puzzles get harder the further a player gets.

Hosts launch it as a 30-second change of pace between quiz questions. It needs no question set. Every player has their own stream of words, so there is nothing to copy from a neighbour's screen, and the player who solves the most words wins.
Quick facts
- Players
- 1 or more. Works solo or with a whole room. There is no fixed player cap.
- Length
- 30 seconds from launch to the bell.
- Solo room
- Yes. The launcher sets no minimum, and each player is scored on their own words, so one player can run it.
How it works
The host launches Word Scramble and every device shows a rack of scrambled letters for a three-letter word.
Players build the word by tapping tiles or typing, then lock it in once every slot is full.
A correct lock reveals the word briefly and moves straight on to a longer word.
A wrong lock shakes the rack, costs a short lockout and keeps the guess so it can be fixed. Skip reveals the word with no credit and moves on.
Words grow from three letters up to eight letters.
At the bell the player with the most solved words wins; whoever reached that count first breaks ties.
Player controls
Tap the letter tiles to drop them into the slots, or type on a keyboard. Lock the guess when the slots are full, or tap Skip.
Quiz questions
None, it is pure skill. Word Scramble uses its own built-in word lists and does not use the loaded question set.
Tips for hosts
- Tell players that skipping a hard word is allowed, because a stuck player loses more time than a skip costs.
- Launch it when the room needs a quick reset, since the round is a fixed 30 seconds.
- Point out that words grow every time, so the early short words are the place to build speed.
Frequently asked questions
How long does Word Scramble last?
The round runs for 30 seconds from launch, and the host does not set the length. Players solve as many words as they can in that time, starting at three letters and growing by one letter per word up to eight.
What happens if a player locks in a wrong word?
The rack shakes and the player is locked out for 0.6 seconds. Their guess stays in place so they can adjust it, but the same wrong guess cannot be locked twice. A wrong lock never ends the run.
Do all players get the same words?
No. Each player gets their own stream of words, generated from the round seed and their player ID. The server replays that stream when it scores the round, so the final result does not depend on the device.
