Quick Math: a live mental maths streak game for your quiz

Quick Math is a mental arithmetic race that rewards streaks. Players solve a stream of sums that start very easy. The longer a player's streak runs, the harder the sums get, and each correct answer scores the level of the sum it solved.

Hosts use it as a 30-second burst between quiz questions. It needs no question set. One wrong answer sends a player back to the easy sums, so the game is about staying accurate under time pressure, and the highest total score at the bell wins.

Quick facts

Players
1 or more. Works solo or with a whole room. There is no fixed player cap.
Length
30 seconds from launch to the bell.
Solo room
Yes. The launcher sets no minimum, and each player's run is scored separately, so one player can play it.

How it works

  1. The host launches Quick Math and every device shows its first sum, a single-digit addition or subtraction.

  2. Players key in the answer on a number pad and press Lock.

  3. A correct answer scores points equal to the sum's level, from 1 to 7, and extends the streak.

  4. As the streak grows the sums climb through seven levels, adding larger subtraction, multiplication, division and finally two-step sums.

  5. A wrong answer resets the streak, so the next sum drops back to level 1, and the Lock key cools off for 1.5 seconds, longer after repeated misses.

  6. At the bell the highest score wins. Best streak and then fewer misses break ties.

Player controls

Type the answer on the on-screen number pad (up to five digits) and press Lock.

Quiz questions

None, it is pure skill. Quick Math generates its own sums and does not use the loaded question set.

Tips for hosts

  • Tell players that a long streak is worth far more than the same number of easy answers, so careful beats fast.
  • Explain the cool-off: mashing Lock after a miss only makes the wait longer.
  • Use it with a room that likes numbers, and follow it with a numbers question to keep the theme going.

Frequently asked questions

How does scoring work in Quick Math?

Each correct answer scores the level of the sum it solved, from 1 to 7. The streak decides the level: it climbs every couple of correct answers and resets to level 1 after a miss. The round score is the total of those points.

What happens after a wrong answer?

The streak resets, so the next sum is back at level 1, and the Lock key cools off. The cool-off is 1.5 seconds after a first miss, 2.5 seconds after two in a row and 3.5 seconds after three or more.

How long is a Quick Math round?

The round is a fixed 30 seconds from launch, and the host does not set the length. Players answer as many sums as they can in that time, and the highest total score at the bell wins.
