Space Impact: a live space shooter with optional quiz cards

Space Impact is a full‑screen 3D arcade shooter. Each player's ship fires automatically while they steer through waves of invaders, lining up shots and dodging fire. Every kill adds to the score, and a player's best run is the one that counts.

If a question set is loaded, quiz cards now and then slide in during the fight, and a correct answer powers the ship up. With no set loaded it plays as a pure shooter, so you can run it any time.

Quick facts

Players
1 or more. Works solo or with a whole room. Each player flies their own ship on their own device.
Length
About 48 seconds: a 3-second intro followed by a 45-second round.
Solo room
Yes. A host can launch it for a single player, since there is no minimum player count. It is not part of the hostless Free Play pool.

How it works

  1. The host launches Space Impact and each device shows a 3-second intro.

  2. The ship fires by itself; players only steer to line up shots and dodge enemy fire.

  3. Enemy waves advance, divers telegraph their path before they swoop, and a boss called the Dreadnought joins the fight.

  4. The ship has two points of armor. A hit uses one up, and only a hit with none left is a real crash, which restarts the run.

  5. With a set loaded, a question card opens about 5 seconds in and stays up for 6 seconds. A correct answer gives an overcharge salvo with a shield and triple shot.

  6. At the bell, each player's best run of kills is ranked, weighted by their accuracy on the cards, with speed to that score as the tiebreak.

Player controls

Drag or use the on-screen joystick on a touch screen, or WASD or the arrow keys on a keyboard, to steer. Keys 1 to 4 answer a quiz card on a keyboard, or tap the answer.

Quiz questions

Optional. If a question set is loaded, up to six of its questions become quiz cards during the fight and are marked used, so the main quiz does not repeat them. Cards are graded on the server. A correct answer fires the overcharge; a miss pushes the next card out. With no set loaded there are no cards.

Tips for hosts

  • Load a question set first if you want the quiz cards, otherwise the round is pure shooting.
  • Tell players that a quick answer pays a bigger salvo than a slow one, so reading before the card opens helps.
  • Remind players that a crash keeps their best run, so it is worth jumping straight back in.

Frequently asked questions

How is Space Impact scored?

Kills are the score, and your best run counts. Kills are weighted by answer accuracy on the quiz cards, down to a floor of 25 percent. Ties go to whoever reached the score fastest.

Do I need questions for Space Impact?

No. Without a loaded question set it is a pure arcade shooter. With one, a few questions appear as cards in the fight, and the server grades each pick, so nobody can claim an answer they did not give.

Can I play Space Impact on a keyboard?

Yes. Steer with WASD or the arrow keys and answer a card with keys 1 to 4. On touch devices you drag or use the on-screen joystick instead. The ship fires on its own either way.
