Sugar Glass: a live bridge‑crossing game made of quiz questions

Sugar Glass turns your multiple choice questions into a bridge of glass panels. Every step of the bridge is a real question, and each answer choice is a panel. Players step onto the panel they trust, and only the right one holds.

Hosts use it as a short, high-tension run in place of a normal question block. It keeps the same ten second answer window as the main quiz, and the whole room crosses together, step by step, towards a two-panel final pane.

Quick facts

Players
1 or more. No minimum and no fixed cap. Everyone crosses the same bridge on the same question, and the stage shows the room as one crowd.
Length
A run is 5, 7 or 10 steps (7 by default). Each step is 11 seconds: 1 second of read-ahead and a 10 second answer window, plus a 4 second intro and a 10 second finale.
Solo room
Yes. The launcher has no minimum player count, and each step is graded per player. A solo player simply crosses the bridge alone, sitting out one step after a fall.

How it works

  1. The host picks the number of steps, 5, 7 or 10, and optionally the gut window, then launches from the set's unused multiple choice questions.

  2. Each step shows a real question with its answer choices as glass panels, after a 1 second read-ahead.

  3. Players tap a panel and can change their pick until the 10 second answer window closes.

  4. At the reveal, a player on the bridge who picked the solid panel is safe, and one who picked a wrong panel splashes into the pit.

  5. The last step is the Final Pane with only two panels. Anyone who picks the right one reaches the Far Side.

Player controls

Tap the panel you trust. You can change your mind while the answer window is open, and each tap is sent as your pick. There is nothing to type or drag.

Host settings

  • Steps in the run: 5, 7 or 10 (default 7).
  • Gut window: 4 seconds (default), 6 seconds or off, which controls when the first-instinct bonus applies.

Quiz questions

Every step is a real multiple choice question from your set, graded by the same single grading function as the main quiz, and only questions with exactly one winning panel can be a step. A run of N steps needs N eligible unused questions, otherwise the host sees a friendly message suggesting a shorter run. A wrong panel drops you into the pit, but nothing ever scores below zero.

Tips for hosts

  • Pick 5 steps for a quick round or 10 for a full session, and check the ready count shown in the launcher first.
  • Explain the gut window beforehand: the first pick made in it earns a bonus if it is also the final, correct one.
  • Reassure players that a fall is brief: they sit out one step and are bounced back on the next, so no one is out for long.

Frequently asked questions

How is Sugar Glass scored?

A right panel scores 100 run points. A correct answer that was also your first pick in the gut window adds 25, a correct switch from the most popular gut panel adds 25, and a right answer on the Final Pane adds 150.

What happens when a player falls in Sugar Glass?

They splash into the pit, sit out the next step, and are bounced back onto the bridge when that step closes. The Final Pane is the exception, where a player in the pit still plays and a right answer brings them across.

How many questions does Sugar Glass need?

A run of N steps needs N unused, eligible multiple choice questions, with 2 to 4 distinct choices and exactly one correct one. If the set falls short, the host sees a message suggesting a shorter 5 or 7 step run.
