Quick Draw: a live draw‑and‑guess game for pairs

Quick Draw splits the room into small groups. In each group one player sketches a secret word on their device while the others try to name it from four choices. The pen then passes to the next player, so everyone draws and everyone guesses.

Hosts use it as a short, noisy break between question rounds, and it needs no question set at all. For a deeper look at how it plays, see the related read at /features/quick-draw.

Quick facts

Players
2 or more. Needs at least 2 connected players. There is no fixed cap: the room is split into pairs, with one group of three when the count is odd.
Length
The host sets the round length from 10 to 300 seconds (default 45), after a 5 second intro. Each drawing turn is capped at 25 seconds, getting 1.5 seconds shorter every turn and never under 15 seconds.
Solo room
No. The host cannot launch it with fewer than 2 connected players; the launcher shows 'Need at least 2 connected players to launch Quick Draw.'

How it works

  1. The host launches Quick Draw and players are shuffled into pairs, with one trio absorbing an odd player; the game tries not to repeat last round's partners.

  2. After a 5 second intro, the first player in each group becomes the drawer and their device deals a secret word plus four choices.

  3. The drawer sketches on a shared page while guessers wait 5 seconds, then see four choices and tap the one they think it is.

  4. The turn ends when every connected guesser has picked or the turn clock runs out, then the word is revealed and the pen passes to the next player.

  5. Turns repeat until the round timer ends, and points are totalled for each player.

Player controls

The drawer draws with a finger or pointer, picks a pen colour, can undo a stroke or clear the page, and may swap to a different word once per turn. Guessers tap one of four choices.

Host settings

  • Quick Draw duration in seconds (10 to 300, default 45).

Quiz questions

None, it is pure skill. Words come from a built-in pool of simple drawable things, so no loaded question set is used or consumed.

Tips for hosts

  • Allow at least 45 seconds so every pair gets a couple of turns; with the 25 second turn cap, a 45 second round fits about two.
  • Run it with an even number of players when you can, so nobody ends up in a three-person rotation and waits longer for the pen.
  • Remind guessers that the choices appear 5 seconds after the word is dealt, so there is no rush to tap early, but faster correct picks score more.

Frequently asked questions

How does Quick Draw score points?

Per turn, the fastest correct guesser earns 2 points, every other correct guesser earns 1, and the drawer earns 1 if at least one guesser got it right. Points are scored per player, so a drawer whose sketch lands is rewarded too.

How are the teams chosen?

Connected players are shuffled into pairs, with one group of three if the count is odd. The shuffle prefers partners who were not paired in the previous Quick Draw round. Drawing rotates around each group in turn.

Can players see the secret word?

No. The word is sealed with a hash when it is dealt, so guessers only see four choices, and the server checks the revealed word against that seal before any point is awarded.
