Imposter: a live social deduction game for your room
Imposter is a three‑round party game. Every round, everyone is secretly told a word except one player, the imposter, who only knows the category. The room talks about the word out loud without giving it away, then everybody votes on who is faking it.

Hosts use it as a short party round of about three minutes. It needs no question set, and it works best with a room of four or more people sat together.
Quick facts
- Players
- 3 or more. Needs at least 3 players. There is no fixed cap, and it plays best in a room of 4 or more.
- Length
- A 5-second intro, then three rounds of 30 seconds of talking, 15 seconds of voting and a 6-second reveal.
- Solo room
- No. It is a group game and the catalog lists a minimum of 3 players.
How it works
The host launches Imposter and the game deals every player a secret role card on their own device.
Crew members see the category and the word. The imposter sees only the category, and has to blend in.
During the 30-second talk, players say something about the word out loud. Be specific enough to prove you know it, and vague enough not to hand it to the imposter.
Then everybody votes for who they think the imposter is. Votes stay secret until the reveal.
The reveal shows who the imposter was and what the word was. Roles change every round, so a different player is faking it next time.
Player controls
Tap a player's name during the vote. You can change your pick until the vote closes.
Quiz questions
Not needed. Imposter uses its own word list and no quiz questions, so you can launch it from the Mini-games drawer at any time.
Tips for hosts
- Talk out loud as a room, because the game is the conversation.
- If you are the imposter, listen first and echo what others say.
- Crew should be specific without giving the word away.
Frequently asked questions
How is Imposter scored?
A crew member who votes for the imposter scores 2. The imposter scores 3 if they escape, plus 1 for each crew vote that lands on someone else. The imposter is caught only if they get strictly more votes than anyone else.
Can the imposter see the word?
No. The imposter sees only the category. The word is held by the server and only dealt to crew members, so nobody can read it from another device.
Do I need a quiz set to play Imposter?
No. Imposter has its own word list, so it plays the same with or without a loaded set.
